Two More Down...

This morning, Jonathan Mast took time out from selling cars to come into the federal court and plead guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Bank Fraud, Wire Fraud, and Money laundering. The single felony count Barton's long-time VP of Sales pleaded to carries the potential of a mere five years maximum prison term, compared to Horton's pleas to four counts, one of which has a maximum penalty of thirty years. Mast's charge can be seen here. Mast quit CyberNET a few months before it all blew up, after twelve years and two ruined marriages. It appears that it was not soon enough.

Poor Dave Roepke, who was expected to settle for a measly $25,000 of the millions that Horton tried to stash in the days after the CyberNET raid, has also agreed to plead guilty next tuesday to a single count of money laundering. A much more serious charge than mere conspiracy, Roepke faces the possibility of a twenty year maximum sentence. Roepke's charge can be seen here.
With three co-conspirators now convicted and having agreed to testify, the noose is tightening for the remaining targets of the investigation: Krista and Paul "The Butler" Wright. There is even a small chance that the U.S. Attorney's Office might seek to indict Barton's aged, infirm, and emotionally devastated mother Geraldine -- although if they do someone in that office should get their head examined. She has been in a prison of her own making for many years, and since her son Barton's suicide, in her own tormented solitary confinement of the mind. Nothing the federal government can do would punish her more than she must punish herself every day.
As with Horton, Mast and Roepke will be sentenced later. Although they will get brownie points for "accepting responsibility" and pleading guilty, their ultimate sentences will depend as well on the extent of their "cooperation" against the remaining targets. There will be retribution. Justice is more difficult to achieve.

Jim,
Good to see an update! I can't wait to read the book, autographed, of course!

For a different view of Jonathan Mast (well, really his revisionist history), you can check out his personal, family website:
http://www.mastfamilyfarm.com/
The photos of Jonathan in his carharts and the pig mud are far removed from the suit and tie in the Cybernet wood-paneled boardroom. I'm afraid its going to be hard to support the free-range pasture hobby farm while he's at Club Fed.
Here here anonymous, I couldn't have said it better? He must be selling a LOT of cars to support the farm thing.
Gotta love all the comments about Jesus this and Jesus that on Mast's farm site. LOL! What happened to Thou Shall Not Steal, Dickhead?
Jonathan may need to add a link to his religious section - Chuck Colson's Prison Fellowship. Sorry, that was probably very catty.
I wonder if they've updated their international adoption file for the change in status - Convicted Federal Felon. I suspect the Chinese government might frown on that. I've seen a few times recently where they impose the death penalty for financial crimes - like Jonathan's.
Yah, nowhere on that site did it list Jon's vast powerpoint skills (he was truly good at them, though every account he got ended up suing us, which is why a small company had a in house lawyer of all things) or his volatile screaming temper, nor the strippers that were brought in for Jon's birthday party in 2001, which were cheered on by Bart, Krista, Jim and Jon's personal assistant while the stripper...ah...worked....nor his strange relationship with employing his dad at Cybernet as a telemarketer....why was his dad even there?? I couldn't figure out what that guy was doing in a cube up in the sales department...twisted twisted people...I'm glad a lot of good people like myself and PS got out before the real crap hit the fan...
Poor Dave?? At first yah probably....I remember sitting in his office shooting the breeze, as there was no real work going on anywhere...and he said, "Y'know, I'm the CFO of this conmpany right?" I say yah...I knew he had come from Hansen Manufacturing ina similar role..."Well, when the financials are done each month, we are consistently about $300,000 in the red....and I take them upstairs to Barton, and I get them back 2 or 3 days later and they are balanced..."
Welll....that was about the end for me. The sales department had a guy in there (first name starts with an S) that had been there 6 months and had sold MAYBE $3000 gross of stuff...(and when he got fired, he almost assaulted the sales manager..hah!)...and the other 3-4 guys (two with the same name), except Paul, (the only holdover from the last reorganization)were selling close to nothing....yah..that told me it was time to get the heck outta dodge..well, that and having 3 staff reorganizations mandated to me and 4 titles in 3 months there...freak shows...they all deserve what they get...but Dave was clean at first it seemed to me...
Can somebody please tell me how Jonathan Mast can travel out of state (to San Diego) after pleading guilty to a felony and awaiting sentencing? Check this out from their blog:
"Catch Up - February 14, 2007
Just a quick note as I'm flying low today trying to get caught up on work and such. We've been gone for the last two weeks (almost) to San Diego, CA volunteering at the National Pastors Convention . I was photographing the convention, Beth was responsible for all kinds of stuff and Travis helped with everything from setup to book sales. We had a great time and really enjoyed meeting some fabulous pastors and ministry leaders. For more details take a look at our NPC 2007 blog."
Yes, there appears to be a hot link to the Blog. I didn't click on it, because I'm already going to be nauseous.
Do you just need to get permission from the equivalent of your parole officer? Even while awaiting sentencing? Cause I know too many buddies who have walked across the border for a night in Mexico....
Looks like Mama is going to cop a plea, too.
From the Feb 20 GR Press online:
"Mother of CyberNET founder expected to enter plea
GRAND RAPIDS -- The mother of CyberNET founder Barton Watson, the focus of a $100 million business fraud before he committed suicide, is expected to enter a plea in federal court Monday for her role in the scandal.
Geraldine Watson, 77, is accused of bank fraud, money laundering, conspiracy and lying on a federal form to obtain a shotgun for her son. She is one six people, including Barton Watson's wife, charged in the scheme to defraud dozens of banks through millions in loans.
The plea deal offered to Geraldine Watson has not been disclosed by prosecutors.
Barton Watson shot himself in his $1 million Ada Township home in 2004 as investigators closed in on the scheme."
Amazing how cooperative they become when they have to face doing time. You can bet they would have continued to live large had this still been going on, while the rest of the peons got squat.
i know Jonathan!!!!!!!!
